Community-Led Protection Programme

Protection of the Sumatran rainforest and Tiger through community-led protection and local development.

The project, carried out in partnership with the local community and Gunung Leuser National park, aims to protect the natural resources of the northern jungle of Sumatra through a comprehensive intervention in the communities bordering the jungle, in order to provide them with tools and capacities to adequately and sustainably manage these resources and to protect them.

Building village independence in the mitigation of human and tiger conflict is a part very important inside of our programme.

The objectives:

Development

To offer sustainable and environmentally friendly local development alternatives

Awareness

To generate social awareness about the importance of natural resources for the survival and development of local communities

Collaboration & Knowledge

To promote collaboration and coordinated action between the different entities and stakeholders in the area and get data about Tiger territory and ecology.

The project, of an integral and communitarian nature, proposes a series of activities that allow local communities to understand that natural resources are essential for their survival, and provide them with means, capacities, and mechanisms to protect and manage these resources sustainably. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the effective protection of the rainforest ecosystem in the North of Sumatra through a community-led conservation program.
