Coffee for Conservation: The Tapanuli-Sipirok Program
We're working with local coffee growers in North Sumatra to create a fair trade system that does more than just pay farmers a fair price. Our unique program provides a direct benefit to the conservation of endangered species, including the Gibbon, an incredible ape that is one of the most endangered primates on the planet.
Our team, composed of conservation specialists, local farmers, and cooperatives, is working together on one of North Sumatra's largest rural development programs focused on conservation. By buying coffee from this region, you're helping protect the incredible biodiversity of the Batang Toru landscape.
Volunteer & Visit
Want to see our work firsthand? We offer the opportunity to spend a few days on a coffee plantation. You can join us as a volunteer or simply visit to learn more.
When you volunteer, you'll work alongside local farmers and their cooperative, assisting with daily tasks on the farm. All of the coffee produced here is organic and sustainable. During your stay, you can choose to live in our partner's guesthouse or stay with a local farmer for an authentic cultural experience.
In your free time, you can go trekking in the nearby Batang Toru forest—home to the Tapanuli orangutan, a species only discovered in 2010.
