Wild Elephant Tracking at the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park

You like real adventure, slightly extreme but unforgettable experiences. We are offering you a unique experience to join us next to Gunung Leuser National Park, in a place called the Sapo Padang enclave.

Rough itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Batu Katak, stay overnight at the guesthouse

Day 2: Travel to Sapo Padang by motorbike (3-hour journey through the forest). Arrive in a small village in the enclave and enjoy a local lunch. After lunch, visit the waterfall and river in Gunung Leuser National Park. Overnight, you will rest up at a local house in preparation for trekking early the next morning.

Day 3: Set off after breakfast and enter the territory of the Sumatran tiger and wild elephants in search of wildlife. Trekking minumum of 6 hours a day. Our team will set up the campsite each night and cook your meals.

Day 4-5: Continue trekking and the search for wildlife. On Day 5, we start our return trip.

Day 6: Continue the trek until we reach the village for lunch. After lunch, we return on motorbikes to Batu Katak for your evening meal and a comfy bed.

Length: 7 days (6-7 hours trek per day)

Price: €750 (minimum 2 people required)

Inclusions: Certified guide, porters, 2x night guesthouse accommodation (sharing room), local house accommodation, campsite accommodation, food in the forest, forest permit, motorbike transport

Attire & equipment: Long pants, t-shirt, long socks, rubber boots, water bottle (ideally with filter), binoculars, mosquito repellent, backpack, sleeping bag, sunhat, suncream, small personal first aid kit, drybag to protect valuables/electronics, battery pack, headtorch, rain jacket, quick-dry towel

Additional info: No perfume; bright/white-coloured clothing not advised (easy for animals to spot you!). For swimming: women are not permitted to wear bikinis - please bring (knee-length) shorts & a t-shirt. Clothes don’t dry in the jungle, so bring something you’re comfortable wearing repeatedly!

Please note: transport from the airport to Batu Katak (guesthouse) is not included.
