Our organization Ibu Bumi Orangutan has the mission of protecting the rainforest through different programs related to sustainable economic development, education and wildlife protection. To achieve this, we have several programs on the ground in collaboration with different local partners. Each of these programs has different missions.

We offer the opportunity to learn and share knowledge in the field. The possibility for students who have completed their studies and need an internship to do it with us. This type of volunteering is aimed at people of all ages and families who are 100% able to adapt to the field and work.

All the places that we offer to volunteers have rules in respect of the local culture ( muslims)

Pamah Simelir:

ECO BUILDING AND PERMACULTURE

We have a collaboration program with a local family that they need support for eco building and permaculture activities.

Their location is in the border of Gunung Leuser National park

Volunteer activities are aimed at helping with daily activities. Normally, volunteers stay with them at the volunteers house.

Budget include food,room and activities.

On the free time you can join Martin the owner to the national park for monitoring trekking, the location is a wonderfull spot of wildlife like hornbill, gibbons, eagle,tiger and much more.

Transportation from Medan to Pamah Simelir is not included. In Pamah Simelir we pick up the volunteers, they are picked up with a private transport that will take them to the house where they are staying and the program is carried out.

Pulau Bangka:

RESCUE CENTER PROGRAM-RESCUE-RELEASE-MONITORING

This island is home to some of the most interesting wildlife in Sumatra and is home to protected species that do not exist anywhere else.

Here we work in collaboration with a local NGO and the relevant departments in the protection of protected species. Its recovery center is one of the largest in Sumatra and has the best reputation. They already release to the wild more than 8.000 wildlife in the last 10 years.

To access this island, volunteers must travel to Jakarta and from there take a flight to the island. Volunteers are picked up at the airport on Belitung Island and from there directed to the center.

They will be accommodated in the center where the activities take place.

Activities that volunteers will carry out:

Preparing food and feeding the animals

Helping veterinarians

Cleaning and adapting enclosures

Care and maintenance of the place

Rescuing wild animals

Release programs

Accompanying visitors to the center

Animal welfare

Observation and ethological study

Mangrove agroforestry program

The staff speaks English and Indonesian.

The minimum period established is 1 month, applications for 6 months are accepted for which there will be a reduction in the initial price. Certificates of verified practice can be obtained to be presented at universities.
