Community-Led Conservation Program
Protecting the Sumatran rainforest and wildlife through Research, Agroforestry, Ecotourism and Education.
The project, carried out in partnership with the local community USU (University of North Sumatra) and TNGL (Gunung Leuser National Park) aims to protect the incredible natural resources of the northern jungle of Sumatra. We aim to achieve this through a comprehensive intervention in the communities bordering the forest, providing them with the knowledge, tools and capacity to adequately and sustainably manage and protect these vital resources.
A crucial part of our program is helping villages become independent in mitigating human-wildlife conflict.
The objectives:
Development
To offer sustainable and environmentally friendly local development alternatives
Awareness and Education
To generate social awareness about the importance of natural resources for the survival.
Collaboration & Knowledge
To promote collaboration and coordinated action between the different entities and stakeholders in the area and get data about wildlife us Gibbons, Tiger, Orangutan and Elephant.
The project, of an integral and communitarian nature, proposes a series of activities that allow local communities to understand that natural resources are essential for their survival, and provide them with means, capacities, and mechanisms to protect and manage these resources sustainably. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the effective protection of the rainforest ecosystem in the North of Sumatra through a community-led conservation program.
